It’s your show.

Hi there! If you’re like us, you’re spending a lot more time on video than ever before. With mmhmm, we’re trying to make that a bit more fun and engaging. Clear, compelling video communication should be easy for everyone.

Overview

Whether you want to make training materials for teammates, or you pitch regularly to multiple external clients, mmhmm makes it easy to create, edit, and share customized video presentations for any audience. This article applies to both mmhmm for Mac and mmhmm for Windows, unless specified.

The mode bar

The mode bar is located between the stage and the slide tray. It allows you to switch between "Edit", "Playback", and "Share" modes.

Note: On mmhmm for Windows, the "Share" mode is called "Publish".
  • Edit mode allows you to edit slides and make recordings.
  • Playback mode allows you to review exactly what you’ve recorded.
  • Share mode allows you to share your presentation as an mmhmm recording, or export it as an mp4.

"Playback" and "Share" modes are grayed out and inaccessible until a recording has been created for this presentation.

How to record

Click the red "Record" button in the middle of the mode bar to start recording a take. Once the countdown finishes, mmhmm will start recording. Click the button again to stop your recording session. Your take will then get synced to the cloud.

During recording, if you feel that you did not like your take, click on the "X" next to the red "Stop" button to discard it.

Then, click "Discard" in the pop-up window to delete your take.

Takes

With takes, you can redo recordings on a slide-by-slide basis instead of re-recording your whole presentation. During a recording session, mmhmm will automatically generate a take for each slide. An icon will appear next to the slide name to show that a take has been recorded.

Tip: If you want to re-record any of your slides or redo the take, just start a new recording session. There is no limit to the number of takes you can record.

To choose which take you’d like to use in the final presentation, select that take from the dropdown on the right side of the mode bar.

You can also select "Manage Takes..." to see a preview of each take and select which one you’d like to use in your final presentation.

"Copy", "Rename", or "Delete" any of the takes listed on that slide by clicking on the ellipsis "..." next to your desired take.

You can also select "Fade out" or "Trim take." Both options help to ensure your transitions are smooth from one take to another.

If you want to trim your take on mmhmm for Windows, use the sliders on the bottom of the video progress bar and click "Done" to confirm.

Playback options

Once you have recorded your presentation, use "Playback" mode to view your presentation in its entirety. Choose Snappy, Turbo, or Max speed to make this step go faster. If you need to make any changes, you can always stop Playback to go back to Edit mode and make adjustments.

Playback mode also allows you to mix pre-recorded and live content within a single presentation. For example, pre-record a sales pitch or class lecture, then insert a LIVE slide to switch to live Q&A at the appropriate points. A LIVE slide is any slide for which you have not recorded any Takes (or where you’ve selected "None / Live video" in the Manage Takes window.)

Right-clicking on a presentation or clicking on the "..." on the right-hand side of the window opens up the following menu:

Duplicate Make a copy of the presentation.
Save as Archive... Export the entire presentation to an editable archive file on your computer. You can share this archive to be opened and edited on another computer.
Move to Trash Move your presentation to the trash. Any presentation older than 30 days will be automatically deleted from your computer.

Tip: To recover a deleted presentation from the trash, click on "Trash" on the upper left-hand side of the Presentation Library, select your desired presentation, and click "Restore"

At the bottom of the Presentation Library, you will find the option to "Import" mmhmm archive files, or to create a new mmhmm presentation from a Keynote, PowerPoint, or PDF file. Here, you can also click on "Manage Legacy Recordings..." to manage any presentations you’ve recorded before mmhmm 2.1 for Mac.
