It’s your show.

Hi there! If you’re like us, you’re spending a lot more time on video than ever before. With mmhmm, we’re trying to make that a bit more fun and engaging. Clear, compelling video communication should be easy for everyone.

This document is meant to be a user manual of sorts, so read it in its entirety or use the table of contents to jump around. Don’t see the answer to your question? If you’re having technical difficulties or want to suggest a topic for this guide, drop us a line at help@mmhmm.app.

Overview

Whether you want to make training materials for teammates, or you pitch regularly to multiple external clients, mmhmm 2.1 makes it easy to create, edit, and share customized video presentations for any audience.

In this article, we will go over:

  1. The Mode Bar
  2. Recording your presentation
  3. Playback options
  4. Publishing
  5. Presentation Library

The Mode Bar

The Mode Bar is located between the Stage and the Slide Tray. It allows you to switch between Edit, Playback, and Publish Modes.

  • Edit mode allows you to edit slides and make recordings.
  • Playback mode allows you to review exactly what you’ve recorded.
  • Publish mode allows you to share your presentation as an mmhmm recording, or export it as an mp4.

Playback and Publish modes are grayed out and inaccessible until a recording has been created for this presentation.

How to record

To start recording, click the red Record button in the middle of the Mode Bar between the Stage and the Slide Tray . Wait for the countdown to finish and start presenting. Click the red button again to stop your recording session.01-record__1_.gif

Takes

Flubbed a line? No sweat! With Takes, you can now redo recordings on a slide-by-slide basis instead of re-recording your whole presentation.

During a recording session, mmhmm will automatically generate a Take for each slide. An icon will appear next to the slide name to show that a Take has been recorded. If you are happy with that recording, great! However, if you’d like to re-record any of your slides, just start a new recording session. There is no limit to the number of Takes you can record.

Note that any Takes on a slide stay with that slide when it is copied (⌘+C) and pasted (⌘+V) into another presentation. This is useful when creating several presentations that share some of the same material, for example, creating custom pitch presentations for different clients.

To choose which Take you’d like to use in the final presentation, select that Take from the dropdown on the right side of the Mode Bar. You can also select Manage Takes to see more options.

Once you are in the Manage Takes window, you can see a preview of each Take and select which Take you’d like to use in your final presentation. You can also Copy, Rename, or Delete any of the takes listed on that slide.

You can also select Fade out or Trim take. Both options help to ensure your transitions are smooth from one Take to another.

Playback options

Once you have recorded your presentation, use Playback mode to view your presentation in its entirety. Choose Snappy, Turbo or Max speed to make this step go faster. If you need to make any changes, you can always stop Playback to go back to Edit mode and make adjustments.

Playback mode also allows you to mix pre-recorded and live content within a single presentation. For example, pre-record a sales pitch or class lecture, then insert a LIVE slide to switch to live Q&A at the appropriate points. A LIVE slide is any slide for which you have not recorded any Takes (or where you’ve selected None / Live video in the Manage Takes window.)

Publishing

Click over to Publish mode when you are ready to share your final recording. This will pull up a window where you can set a title for your recording as well as choose whether you want to save the video as a .mp4 or as a mmhmm recording (or both)!

To save as a mmhmm recording, simply click Publish once you’ve given your recording a Title and Description. Click through the blue bar(s) to choose which frame is selected as the Preview Image for your shared recording. Now you can copy the link and share it with whomever you choose! Your recipient will be able to use that link to view the recording once publishing has been completed.

After a recording has been published, an Edit Settings button will appear in the Publish window. This will allow you to change the Title, Description, or Preview Image for a previously-published mmhmm recording.

To export the recording as a .mp4, click the blue Save as video link in the top right hand corner. This will prompt you to name your video, select where you’d like for the video to be saved, and allow you to select the resolution of the video to control the file size.
