There are two types of backgrounds in mmhmm:

  • Still backgrounds
  • Dynamic backgrounds: moving backgrounds with settings you control. Dynamic backgrounds have a play button ▶ on the thumbnail.

Choose a background

  1. In your web browser, go to ooo.mmhmm.app/talk or open the mmhmm app on your computer.
  2. In the Style panel, go to the Backgrounds section and choose a background. To browse more backgrounds, click See all.

Add your own custom background

  1. In the Style panel, go to the Backgrounds section and click See all.
  2. In the left sidebar menu, click Custom.
  3. In the upper right, click + Add new.
  4. Select an image file (JPG, PNG, GIF, HEIC) to upload from your computer.

Tip: For best results, use an image with a width-to-height pixel ratio of 16:9. We recommend 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is a common size that’s big enough to look great in mmhmm.

Use your real room as a background

In the Style panel, go to the Background section and uncheck the box next to Background to show your real room.

Adjust dynamic background settings

Some dynamic mmhmm backgrounds have adjustable background settings.

  1. In the Style panel, go to the Backgrounds section and select a dynamic background that has motion or other visual effects, such as Paper World.
  2. To adjust the Speed or Camera settings, click and drag the slider accordingly.

Manage custom backgrounds

You can rename or delete any custom background you've added to mmhmm.

  1. In the Style panel, go to the Backgrounds section and click See all.
  2. In the left sidebar menu, select Custom.
  3. Right-click the room and select Rename or Delete.
