Adjust your appearance and background

A great show uses space, lighting, and special effects to make speakers look their best. In mmhmm, use the side panel to change how your background appears, frame yourself, add visual effects, communicate with hand gestures, and more.

Choose how your real background appears

In the Presenter settings, choose if you want your Real background to be:

  1. Visible: Your real background is visible behind you
  2. Blurred: Your real background is blurred behind you
  3. Hidden: Your real background is hidden behind you

Change the shape of your frame

Your frame determines how much of your head, body, and real background appear on stage. In the Presenter settings, choose if you want your Shape to be:

  1. Rectangle: A full rectangular frame
  2. Circle: A tight circular frame
  3. Hexagon: A tight hexagonal frame

Crop your frame

Cropping helps frame your shot on the mmhmm stage. Click and drag the handles on the sides of your frame to crop it. This is also useful if you want to remove unwanted parts of your background that are not covered by a physical green screen:

To remove the crop, click your frame and select More... and Adjust Crop. Then, click Reset. This will reset the frame to its default dimensions.

Additional presenter settings

In the Presenter settings, click to expand Additional settings.

Use a virtual background

In the Virtual background setting, choose one of the default backgrounds. To access more virtual backgrounds, click See all. Here, you can browse backgrounds from a variety of categories.

To add a custom background:

  1. In the left sidebar, go to Custom.
  2. In the upper right, click + Add new.
  3. In the window that appears, select an image or video file to upload from your computer. Video files will not play sound when used as a virtual background.
Tip: For best results, use an image with a width-to-height ratio of 16:9. We recommend 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is a common size that’s big enough to look great in mmhmm.
