Stop mmhmm from being the default camera for video conferencing

mmhmm will be "on" as long as it is the selected camera in the program you're using it with. If you don't want to use mmhmm for a video call, go to your video conference platform's settings and choose a different camera.

This will turn mmhmm "off" until you select it again as your input camera. If you don't change your input camera from mmhmm to another camera and mmhmm is not open, you'll see a message telling you to launch mmhmm:
