Backgrounds in mmhmm should be in a 16:9 aspect ratio, ideally 1920x1080 pixels. If your background is in a different ratio, mmhmm is designed to preserve your background as much as possible by adding black bars to the sides to make them fit without distortion. To fix this, resize your background in an image editor, such as Preview on Mac.
