Overview

This article explains installing or uninstalling the mmhmm Desktop beta for macOS and Windows.

mmhmm Desktop is different from mmhmm. This beta does not have scenes or takes. This new app has all of the presenting and recording features of mmhmm for web, along with the same easy-to-use interface. It also comes with a virtual camera, so you can use mmhmm by itself or with Zoom, Google Meet, or any other third-party video conferencing app.  It can be installed simultaneously with the non-beta version of mmhmm.

A note about our beta software

You can install the beta if you want to preview early versions of mmhmm Desktop. The beta will give you access to features we have not yet released to our generally available version.

By installing our beta, you acknowledge that there may be some unstable features that are not representative of the final version quality. Therefore, although not required, we ask that if you join our beta, you participate by helping us report any bugs you encounter to help@mmhmm.app so we can investigate them with you. This helps us ensure we fix any issues before releasing our general version.

If you have any questions, read the FAQ below or email us at help@mmhmm.app.

Known bugs

macOS

  • Screen sharing immediately shares the full screen instead of showing a prompt to select a specific window or the full screen.
  • The beta app does not honor the system settings for light/dark mode and must be set manually within the app settings.

Windows

  • Screen sharing immediately shares the full screen instead of showing a prompt to select a specific window or the full screen.
  • Memory usage increases when the mmhmm Desktop window is fully or partially obscured by another window. This is only observable on certain computers, and is exacerbated when running on battery power.

FAQ

I have previously created presentations using the old mmhmm Windows app. Can I use them with the new mmhmm Desktop for Windows?

  • Not yet. We will be releasing a helper app soon to let you upload any previously-created mmhmm presentations into the cloud, where they will be accessible not just by the mmhmm Desktop for Windows app, but also mmhmm for Web and mmhmm for Mac.

I’ve added people via my mmhmm Desktop but they can’t hear the people from my Zoom / Meet call, and vice versa!

  • If you call other people with an mmhmm link from mmhmm Desktop, your invitees will join you on the mmhmm Desktop stage. When you join a Zoom call with the virtual camera, your mmhmm stage (including all your invitees) will show up on Zoom, but the audio won’t be shared between Zoom and your mmhmm app. To solve this issue, make sure your mmhmm call attendees also join the Zoom meeting.
